Sudden Oak Death (SOD) outbreak expected

Update: Sudden Oak Death Fall 2024

UC Berkeley scientists have declared that we can expect to see a new wave of Sudden Oak Death infections in response to the drought-breaking late season storms of 2023-2024.

This disease thrives in a warm, moist environment. During drought periods we do not see many new infections. The opposite is true when we have sustained periods of heavy rainfall during late spring months. (April-May)

In 2023-2024 we experienced just this.

Tree Solutions arborists are experienced experts in diagnosis and treatment for Sudden Oak Death disease. Early on, during the discovery period, Tree Solutions owner James Neve actively participated in the research effort.

There is a fungicide that will help prevent your oak trees from becoming infected. The primary active ingrediant stimulates plant defense mechanisms. It has proven to be a useful prevention tool.

It is important to know is that a tree can be infected for up to two years before it exibits signs or symptoms. Once a tree vascular system has been compromised, treatment will likely not help.

The watermold pathogen Phytophthora ramorum is the causal agent behind Sudden Oak Death (SOD) infections. It was first discovered in 1995. Since then, researchers have studied this disease, learned its habits and developed treatment protocols.
